Charles Beatty
Charles "Chuck - Hatchet" Beatty's Honorable Beatty's living motto is "Give Something Back.' A reflection of his adult life shows that he has been giving back to his community, the youth, and the University of North Texas in many unselfish ways.
Councilman Beatty is a retired executive with the Boy Scouts of America. He has held various professional positions with the Boy Scouts over the last 30 years in Dallas and St. Louis. He
initially served as District Executive in Dallas, Field Director and Director of Urban Scouting in St. Louis and Dallas.
In 1995, Councilman Beatty was elected to the Waxahachie City Council. When re-elected to the Waxahachie City Council in 1997, he was selected as Mayor of Waxahachie and served for five (5) consecutive years, longer than anyone in the history of Waxahachie. He was re-elected to the City Council unopposed in 2003 and 2005, re-elected in 2007, and was a candidate for Ellis County Judge in 2006.
Prior to Councilman Beatty's career as a Boy Scout Executive, City Councilman and Mayor, he played professional football. He became the starting strong safety for the Pittsburgh Steelers his rookie year, along with college teammate "Mean" Joe Greene. He also played for the St. Louis Cardinals of the National Football League (NFL) and for the Florida Blazers of the World Football League
Councilman Beatty's commitment to the youth can best be summarized in the words of Pablo Casal, "You must work - we all must work to make this world worthy of its children." Beside his dedication to the youth through his career as a Boy Scout Executive and founder of the Waxahachie Boys & Girls Club, listed below are just a few of the other activities in which Councilman Beatty has been involved to "Give Something Back" to the youth.
- Started the first program in the Midwest for boys in homeless shelters
- Developed the Cub Scout initiative/Role Model Program
- Conducted the First Day Camp in Circle Ten Council for the Boy Scouts of America
- Started the first Computer Day Camp in the nation
- Worked with many football clinics held in conjunction with the National Football League Alumni
- Developed church and school partnerships
- Founding Board member of the Waxahachie Boys & Girls Club
- Recruited top level Civic and Business Leaders

Councilman Beatty, a graduate of the University of North Texas, was instrumental in partnership with Senator Royce West and the University of North Texas Board of Regents in establishing the University System Center in the Southern Sector of Dallas/Northern Ellis County, now the University of North Texas at Dallas.
We are very proud of Honorable Beatty's accomplishments and extremely proud of his dedication to give back to his State, Community, Alma Mater, and to youth. He is a role model for youth and adults and a reflection of the quality produced by the City of Waxahachie and the University of North Texas. Mr. Beatty is a widower and the proud parent of two children, Lauren Odette and Charles Brandon.
