Makia Epie
Councilmember Epie has served on the Cedar Hill Council since 1995. He serves in Place 5 on the Council. Councilmember Epie works as a Hearing Officer for the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles.
Mr. Epie has served the City on several boards and youth activities since 1988:
- President/Organizer of Cedar Hill Soccer Association
- Member of Cedar Hill Comprehensive Plan Committee
- Served two years on the Parks Board
He has represented the City on regional and national boards including:
- Vice Chair of Finance and Administration Legislation Committee for the Texas Municipal League -1997
- Policy Committee member for Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Committee of the National League of Cities. 1995-2000
- Vice Chair and Chair of the Steering Committee for Energy, Environment and Natural Resources committee of the National League of Cities.2001-2005
- Appointed to the EPA National Committee on National Small Systems Affordability Criteria Work Group: National Drinking Water Advisory council 2003
- Director - National League of Cities Board 2005 -2007
- Director - Texas Municipal League Insurance Risk Pool Board -1998-2014
- President 1995-2003 North Central Texas Housing Finance Corporation and as Director on the Board to date
- Participant on the I-35 NAFTA corridor support group
- Participated in work group in the creation of UNT - Dallas
He claims Gladewater, Texas as his city of origin, although it is 10,000 miles from his home in Kurume, Meme Division in Cameroon - Africa. He and his wife, Mireille (Mbakop Nouken), have established Cedar Hill as their permanent home.
